About Weavers Guild OKC

First Established in 1948

The Weavers Guild of Oklahoma City was established in 1948 with approximately eighteen talented and experienced members who met monthly in the First Christian Church.

These weavers were featured regularly in the Daily Oklahoman and Sunday Oklahoman newspapers for their numerous activities all around Oklahoma City. As time passed and membership declined the guild disbanded in the late 1990s.

Re-established in 2006

A resurging interest in loom weaving, fueled in part by weaving lessons at City Arts Center on the Fairgrounds, brought a few old members and some newer weavers together to revive the guild. About twenty weavers met in April 2006 and a new Weavers Guild of Oklahoma City was formed.

The studio opened in 2019

After thirteen years of meeting all around central Oklahoma, the guild opened a studio in April 2019 in Del City. It was an immediate success. The guild acquired a permanent location for its extensive library and a place for its monthly meetings, workshops, and lessons. Spaces were made available with enhanced memberships.

The Weavers Guild of Oklahoma City continues to maintain its purpose to promote a high standard of craftsmanship and to generate interest in handweaving.
